Carbon-neutral production and office building

Taking place on 18th May 2022 the symbolic, ground-breaking ceremony on the marked the start of work on the construction of a new campus for Forster Profilsysteme AG in Romanshorn in the Swiss canton of Thurgau. The manufacturer of high-quality doors, windows and façade systems made of steel and stainless steel is investing CHF 52 million in the works. Measuring more than 30,000 m2, the Forster Campus is setting standards in terms of design, technology and sustainability, bringing together employees who had previously been spread across two locations into one state-of-the-art building complex. It is scheduled to be completed in time to mark the company’s 150th anniversary in 2024.

Just ten kilometres from the current location, the Forster Campus blends harmoniously into the rural environment. Employees can look forward not only to a green environment, but also to excellent transport links. The campus itself consists of three different structures. The new building impressively demonstrates the creative and technical possibilities that Forster products offer.

The production and logistics hall features a high-bay warehouse and is the largest building. Here, all processes are optimised, digitised, resource-efficient and sensibly automated. The adjacent technology centre offers space for the training centre, the production workshop and a test centre. The third building, which contains office space, is unobtrusively positioned between its two “siblings”. The interior design is consistently geared towards offering all employees healthy and motivating working conditions and encouraging interaction. Recreational areas both inside and outside the building contribute to a sense of well-being – including its own “lake” with a jetty.

Gold level for sustainability

Forster also has high standards when it comes to sustainability: almost all the roofs are equipped with solar panels. With an output of up to 1.5 megawatts, they power the entire production process with green electricity. Due to measures like this, the Forster Campus will be the first commercial building in Switzerland to receive the internationally renowned LEED certification at the particularly demanding gold level.

While the office buildings are due to be occupied by the end of 2023, Forster is planning to fully open the Forster Campus by June 2024 – in time for the company’s 150th anniversary.
