A r b o n, 1 April 2011 − I have informed the Board of Directors that I will be stepping down as Chairman and Delegate of the Board of Directors of AFG Arbonia-Forster-Holding AG on 30 April 2011, thus ceasing to perform the relevant functions at AFG. As previously announced, I will also be stepping down from the post of CEO on the date of this year's Annual General Meeting. As by far the largest shareholder in AFG I will, however, continue to sit on the Board of Directors until at least when my term of office expires on the date of the 2012 AGM.

It is not easy for me to step away from my life's work. I have been closely associated with AFG for more than 25 years. From 1985 to 1990 I headed the company as its Managing Director, and in 1988 I took it onto the stock market. In September 2003 I acquired a majority shareholding from the heirs of the company's founder Jakob Züllig, and gradually built the company up into one of Europe's leading suppliers to the construction industry.

Throughout all these years, I have performed my various roles with the greatest possible commitment. After successfully coping with the difficult period brought on by the financial and economic crisis, AFG once again faces a very promising future. I am therefore handing over management of AFG to my successors in the expectation that they will pay due care and attention to the value that has been created and to the workforce of almost 6000 employees, and that they will continue to take the company forward. Personally I will do everything I can to ensure that the worldwide experience, contacts and networks that I have built up over 25 years can be transferred and used to the benefit and profit of the company.
